Have you heard of Emily Sargent?

The sister of John Singer Sargent is perhaps not as well known as her famous sibling because until just recently her significant body of work of over 400 watercolours were discovered in storage by her family. In her own right, she was a serious and dedicated artist with an original and bold, decisive style often using strong colours and her paintings show a mastery of the watercolour medium. She travelled widely including through Europe, the Middle East and Africa sometimes painting alongside her brother who even captured her in several of his artworks (see In the Generalife, 1912, painting at her easel). It may be her moment in the sun has arrived as her works are currently being exhibited both in the UK and USA.
