Julie Mehretu

Have you heard of Julie Mehretu?

A contemporary visual artist best known for her immersive large-scale abstract landscapes made by layering various materials including acrylic paint, tracing, and mark making with pencil, pen or ink. Her works are informed by the present including politics, literature and music as well as influenced by the histories of art, architecture and civilisations so that "history is made: one layer on top of another, erasing itself, consuming itself, inventing something else from the same thing." Her works can be seen as part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), New York.
